E2D, Inc (Eliminate the Digital Divide) receives corporate donations of computers, refurbishes them in our Re-Image CLT labs, and redistributes them to families that previously have lacked digital access. The incredible production of our labs (13,500 laptops built since 2013!) is accomplished by highly competent HS students who we hire, train and generously compensate to repair donated laptops. We are seeking 8-10 new students to enter our Re-Image CLT program as lab technicians. The job is located at 920 Hamilton St, Charlotte (AvidXchange Music Factory) and it presumes a student’s ability to secure transportation and work on the weekends. If the cost of riding the bus is prohibitive, we can provide bus passes. Compensation: Salary begins at $10/hour for the initial apprenticeship as students are trained with essential IT hardware skills. No prior IT experience is required; we train all techs with all necessary skills. After the apprenticeship, student techs are paid $15/hour, a living wage for their valuable skills and labor. They also are rewarded by becoming leaders as they help resolve the digital divide in their communities. Many of our technicians were once recipients of an E2D laptop, launching their careers in IT. E2D technicians receive further benefits by way of increased social capital and workforce opportunities. Top technology companies seek out E2D technicians for full-time jobs and our mentorship program connects students with the positions that enable them to break cycles of intergenerational hardship. Skills required: E2D prioritizes equity and we wish to offer the benefits of our program to those who may lack other opportunities. However, with the benefits of joining the E2D family, our application process is highly competitive. Although we don’t require any previous IT experience, we do seek applicants who are highly motivated, reliable, and responsible workers. We ask that you only recommend students who you consider to be the top of their class – ready to enter a professional setting with maturity and drive. We do not tolerate any drama in our Re-Image CLT labs. Covid-19: Our mandate of responsibility is all the more important during Covid-19. We assure you that our labs, though running in-person, implement all recommended safety measures – 6 ft. social distancing, mandatory and enforced mask wearing, temperature checks, handwashing, and risk disclosure. We recognize that our technicians may necessarily be living with high risk of catching Covid-19. We require that all technicians disclose any possible exposure immediately to their supervisor and not return to the lab for two weeks or until receipt of a negative test. They are paid their full salary during this time. Application The E2D Application for this cohort can be found at https://forms.gle/3qxd2XH6HxrtoVqG8 and must be received by Friday, November 13, at 5 pm.
